Chronicles of this site

The first owners were Austrian entrepreneur Julius Grunwald and his wife who later sold the hotel to Arnaldo Bennati in 1930. After a ten year renovation Bennati re-opened the most modern and elegant luxury hotel of venice in liberty style.

Bought by Signa Prima in 2020 and after completion of the three year renovation work, it was to be reopened under the management of Rosewood. Mohari is now continuing the renovations that were stopped for several months.

The SIGNA-Deal

Signa bought the world- famous hotel in 2019 after the previously privately run hotel came under severe economic pressure due to the covid-19 curfew and the temporary total closure of Venice. Signa’s control of the Bauer hotel was tied to shares in a Luxembourg sub-holding, which had been pledged to a Gulf family office that later sold its loan to the U.S. fund King Street. When Signa announced a sale to Schoeller in April, King Street enforced the pledge and took control of the shares, effectively blocking the deal. Now, legal action is likely as Schoeller demands fulfillment of the contract, while King Street is actively marketing the hotel to international investors. In November 2024 Mohari Hospitality bought the Hotel Bauer in Venice for 300 Mio, planning to invest 150 Mio into the modernisation of the 120 guest rooms and giving over the management to the Rosewood hotel chain.
